At TPI Ltd, we always begin with an informal meeting to gather information.  After this introductory meeting we are ready to move to the ‘Financial Planning’ stage:

Questions we often ask you at this stage…

What do you want to do with your life?
Why do you save?
Why do you have a pension plan?
How much money do you want?
When do you want it?
For how long do you want it?
Why do you want that amount?
How do you want it to be paid?
How much income tax do you want to pay?
How much Inheritance tax do you want to pay?
How much capital gains tax do you want to pay?
How long do you want to work?
What would you do if you didn’t work?
What will happen to your estate/ money when you die?
Who looks after your money if you loose your marbles?

It is our belief that this is the most vital stage in the process. Many advisers are great at gathering the information and presenting a technical report. However our experience when talking to clients shows that many advisers do not spend enough time helping the client identify exactly what they want to achieve, in simple, non technical language. In fact, it is our experience that most clients do not actually know what they want. They work many years, earning money, paying bills and saving for the future but with no long term plan.

It’s a bit like getting in the car, setting off down the road with your eyes closed and then saying, “right, where are we going?”

With financial planning we try to help you work out where you are going. We put you on the right track, and then we watch you regularly and adjust you when you lose or change direction.
